The unemployment rate in Australia at 5.8 per cent seasonally adjusted in August, "the Australian Bureau of statistics on Thursday, in line with expectations and up from 5.7 percent in July.
But the Australian economy lost jobs in August 10,700-mile forecasts which had suggested an increase of 10,000 jobs. That follows the loss of jobs at 10,200 last month.
Work full time on 8128800 and 2600 part-time work decreased 8200 to 3508300.
The unemployment rate doubled 9400 (1.3 percent) to 714100. The number of persons looking for full-time work 2300 to 516300, and the number of persons looking for part-time work 11,700 to 197800.
The participation rate was 40.4 percent versus expectations of 65.2 percent and down from 65.1 per cent a month earlier.
The total monthly hours worked overtime to 1650 million 1.1 million hours.
The rate of decrease in the use of the labour force rose 0.7 points to 13.7 per cent. The rate of decrease in the use of the male work force 0.6 point to 11.8 per cent. Low use of female workforce increased 0.8 points to 15.9 per cent.
When releasing the data, the Australian dollar fell against other major currencies, trading off the dollar 0.9296, 1.4346 Euro 1.1416 against Kiwi and 92.60 yen vs.
